"Time" is a song about moving on, setting boundaries, and reclaiming your time and energy. It's about recognizing your worth and refusing to settle for less than you deserve. I wrote this song during a songwriting challenge with my colleague and friend Kerry, and it was a truly collaborative and inspiring experience.

"Time" explores themes of self-respect, setting boundaries, and moving on from relationships that no longer serve us. It's about recognizing that our time and energy are precious and that we have the right to choose how we spend them. The lyrics are a powerful declaration of independence and a reminder that we are not obligated to stay in situations that diminish our worth.

I had Chloe x Halle in mind as I was writing the words. Their artistry embodies the strength, independence, and soulful vocals that I wanted to capture. I imagined them delivering the lyrics with their signature blend of power and vulnerability, and it fueled my creative process. Here are the lyrics:

I get your messages at night, you be up

At all these ungodly hours

You be telling me goodnight

Wishing the world was still ours

(Mmhmm boy)

How you got time for me now

How you got time

Oh you want to be down with me now

How you got time

(Mmhmm)

You be telling me you’re sorry

But I had to let you go

I want better for myself

I can’t put up with you no more

I ain’t got time for you now

Baby I ain’t got time

I say I don’t have time

Cause I don’t want you

I stay on my grind

So I’on think about you

Don’t need you around

Doing what you do

Rather spend my time with someone who

Knows how to love me unconditionally

Knows how to give me what I need

Quality T I M E

You can’t control time

And you can’t control me

We’ll never get it back

What we used to be

You took it for granted

Your time with me

I don’t know how I’m supposed to believe

time will change up who you are

you can’t even change yourself

Since being alone is so damn hard

Wont you go chase someone else

(Cause...)

How you got time for me now

How you got time

Oh you want to be down with me now

How you got time

(Mmhmm)

You be telling me you’re sorry

But I had to let you go

I want better for myself

I can’t put up with you no more

I ain’t got time for you now

Baby I ain’t got time
